3rd Meeting of the Advisory Council of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region

The meeting took place at Haus der Donau and gathered representatives of the central and local authorities, business sector, civil society, as well as members of Romanian financial institutions. It was was chaired by Mr. Viorel Ardeleanu, National Coordinator for the EU Strategy for the Danube region and Mr. Eric Bartha, General Secretary of CODCR.
The topics discussed during the meeting were focused on subjects of interest related to: the 5th European Summit of Regions and Cities (Copenhagen, March 22-23, 2012); elements relevant to the Danube Strategy included in the Communication of the European Commission regarding the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (published on March 23, 2012); choosing the leaders of the Working Committees within the Advisory Council; Calendar of events for April-December 2012.
Mr. Viorel Ardeleanu informed the participants that he was appointed Ambassador of Romania in Denmark and will begin his mission in Copenhagen on May 1, 2012. Ambassador Ardeleanu expressed his contentment regarding the results achieved so far in the process of implementing the EU Strategy for the Danube Region, and his conviction that Romania will contribute to the macro by developing and promoting priority projects in the priority areas set by the Action Plan.

Moreover, Ambassador Ardeleanu introduced Ambassador Lucian Fatu, who will take over  the responsibioities of National Coordinator for the EU Strategy for the Danube Region, further ensuring the synergy of the relations among central and local authorities, the business and academic sectors, as well as civil society.

On behalf of those present, Mr. Eric Bartha thanked Ambassador Ardeleanu for the successful cooperation he had between 2009 and 2012 with both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania and the team of the Danube Office. Mr. Bartha also assured the new National Coordinator for the EUSDR that all civil society representatives will support the process of establishing a fruitful co-operation that would guarantee a successful implementation of the Strategy.
