The 5th Annual Forum of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region – Bratislava-Slovakia, 3-4 November 2016

In the framework of the Presidency of Slovakia in the Danube macro-regional strategy, the Government Office of the Slovak republic organized, in cooperation with the European Commission, a frontline event of the Strategy entitled „Innovative Flows – Water, Knowledge and Innovation in the Danube Region“.

The Annual Forum was officially opened by the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, the Vice-President of the European Commission for Energy Union, Maroš Šefčovič and the European Commissioner for Education, Youth and Sport and the Joint Research Centre (JRC), Tibor Navracsic. Ministers and their representatives from the Danube countries, representatives of the European Commission, International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR), as well as mayors, Danube Strategy National coordinators, experts and participants from the Danube countries took part as well.

 The main topics of the Annual Forum were the thematic priorities of the Slovak Presidency in the Danube Strategy – development of Knowledge society and Water management in the Danube region. The Annual Forum aimed also at taking a closer look at how to transform political commitment in concrete operational policies and measures.

In the frame of the 5th Annual Forum of the EUSDR, Slovakia handed over the Presidency in the Danube Strategy to Hungary.

8th European Conference of Danube Cities and Regions – Vienna, 26th June 2014

DSC_0100The meeting of the extended Executive Committee and Office of the Council of Danube Cities and Regions (CODCR) was held on Thursday, June 26th 2014 at Vienna City Hall, “Wappensaal”.

The thematic chosen for this meeting was Perspectives of Urban Policies in the Danube Region”and the speeches delivered addressed this issue from the perspective of establishing an Urban Platform for the Danube Region. Special guests and speakers at the event included Michael Haupl – Mayor of Vienna, Ivo Gonner – Mayor of Ulm and president of CODCR, Sorin Oprescu – General Mayor of Bucharest, Yordanka Fandakova -Mayor of Sofia, Jose Palma Andres – director of the European Commission DG-Regio, Nicolae Barbu – Mayor of Giurgiu, Peter Langer – general coordinator of the CODCR, Eric Bartha – general secretary of CODCR, along with other European officials. 3rd Annual Forum of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region – Vienna, 26-17 June 2014

DSC_0359This year Annual Forum of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region, that took place on 26 and 27 June 2014 and was jointly organised by the European Commission, City of Vienna and the Federal Ministry of Austria, welcomed in the opening day more than 1,000 national and international participants from science, business, politics, administration and non-profit organizations at the Vienna City Hall.

The Forum, which this year was carried out under the motto “We grow together – together we grow”, had as general focus the revision of the Danube Strategy governance system and the competitiveness increase in the region, social inclusion being regarded as a prerequisite for ensuring prosperity and it was regarded as the most important event of the year within the EU Danube Region Strategy.
