Conference on the EU Strategy for the Danube Region

CONSTANTA, TULCEA, 9-11 June, 2010

This conference was the last of a series of events organised in the framework of the preparation of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region.

The aim of the event was to offer a discussion platform for all interested stakeholders who were willing to be involved in the Strategy. At this conference was discussed in depth the priority actions which were included in the EU Strategy for the Danube Region.

Johannes Hahn
European Commissioner for Regional Policy
“The Strategy I want to see will not just be a random selection of good ideas, but a real contribution to building a better future for this part of Europe. It should make our economy stronger, not just in the immediate future, but in the longer term. In the aftermath of the financial crisis the Danube strategy should address the basic factors limiting the sustainable growth potential of this region. That’s why the Commission suggested three main focuses for the consultation process, socio-economic issues, the environment and connectivity.
In the Danube basin we have €100 billion for regional development. This money is already bringing about many projects underway. But we need to see more rapid implementation of programmes.”
