The aim of the Conference was the further strengthening of the cooperation between the six countries of the Middle and Lower Danube, development of the sustainable tourism services and infrastructure and building/ positioning a positive brand on South-Eastern European destinations through integrative approaches in the implementation of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region.
As part of the conference was signing the Declaration/Letter of Understanding between the Ministries of the Middle and Lower Danube region on cooperation in the area of sustainable tourism development emphasizing the exchange and collaboration between neighbours as integrative approach to the future implementation of the EU Danube Strategy.
The Danube “Floating Conference” took place from June 24th to 26th on the boat MS “Elegant Lady” cruising from Belgrade, Serbia via Drobeta Turnu Severin, Romania to Vidin, Bulgaria with the participation of invitees from the EU Parliament and administration as well as representatives from Parliament and ministries from the Danube countries.
As a parallel activity to the conference, local communities of Majdanpek, Kladovo (SER), Drobeta Turnu Severin, county Mehedinti (RO) and Danube Competence Center (DCC) initiated the first cross-border “Blue Danube Festival” in the Iron Gate region (from 22nd to 29th June 2011), as a contribution to the improvement of the tourism offer and cross-border cooperation.
