The Steering Group of PA1a) – to improve mobility and multimodality : inland waterways decided to establish five Working Groups in order to address the respective IWT related actions of the EUSDR Action plan:
- Modernize the Danube fleet
- Invest in education and jobs
- Implement River Information Services
- Improve the waterway infrastructure and the waterway management
- Develop multimodal ports and sustainable freight transport
The Kick-off meeting of the Working Groups was organized by the Austrian and Romania Coordinators of the Priority area 1 a) in Bucharest, on October 27, 2011, followed by the 2nd Meeting of the Steering Group on October 27, 2011. The meeting reunited the WGs so that the participants in the WGs get to know each other and present the functions of the WGs.
Every Working Group gathers stakeholders that can actively contribute to reaching the corresponding targets addressed within the framework of the Danube Strategy by proposing concrete projects ideas, as well as organisations that are a crucial part of the IWT system (e.g. shipping companies, forwarders, ports).
