BUCHAREST, September 28, 2011
The first meeting of the Board of the National Forum on implementation of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region took place on September 28, 2011 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania. Attending the meeting were the Minister of Regional Development and Tourism, Elena Udrea, the Minister of Environment and Forests, Laszlo Borbely, the Minister of Culture and National Heritage Hunor Kelemen, State Secretary Alexandru Nazare from the Ministry of Transports and Infrastructure, and State Secretary Dan Lazar from the Ministry of Public Finance.
The participants discussed several aspects related to the stage in implementing the EUSDR, the priority projects envisaged by Romania and methods for funding them, as well as the schedule of events to be held in the ensuing period in the framework of the Danube Strategy.

As President of the National Forum, the Foreign Minister stated: “We mean to draw up, in the coming weeks, a clear list of specific projects in the working group meetings. We have projects approved by the Government of Romania, on the one hand and, on the other, besides those already submitted to DGRegio, several supplementary projects formulated by partner institutions. For instance, an integrated atlas of the Danube basin (as proposed by the Romanian Academy), harmonization of legislation on fuel utilization on the Danube (proposed by Petrom), creation of a centre of excellence for the promotion of the Danube and the Black Sea region (proposed by Ministry of Economy, Commerce and Business Environment), establishment of a network of creative cities (as proposed by the Council of Danube Cities and Regions), development of green harbours on the Danube (proposed by the SECI-Vienna working group) and others.”
