On March 26, 2013, took place in Brussels the meetings of the Committee and Executive Office of Council of Danube Cities and Regions (CODCR). The day started with a meeting with the Standing Committee of the ARGE Donaulander (Working Group of the Danube Countries), about future cooperation between the 2 organisation, held at the” Vienna House” – the City of Vienna Liaison Office to the EU.
Further on, the joint delegation was received by EU Commissioner for Regional Policy, Johannes Hahn. During the meeting, members of the CODCR presented progress reports on various EUSDR related projects. Moreover, Dr. Kurt Puchinger made a presentation on the “Vienna Charter Project”, while Mr. Peter Langer reported about the start of the project “Rivershow: Democracy, Self Government and Citizen Participation in the Danube Region”.
Since the 7th European Conference of the Danube Cities and Regions will be held in Bucharest, Mr. Eric Bartha presented a progress report on the preparation work for this event and also on the involvement of CODCR in the organization of the 2nd Annual Forum of the Danube Strategy to be held in October, also in Bucharest.
The day continued with the Meeting of the CODCR Committee and executive Office at the Representation of Baden-Wuerttemberg to the EU, where CODCR has its Brussels’ office. During the meeting, the “Brussels Agreement of the Council of Danube Cities and Region and the Working Community of the Danube Region” was adopted. The Agreement stipulates that ”The Council of the Danube Cities and Regions (CODCR) and the Working Community, Danube Regions (ARGE) shall form a Joint Steering Committee for future coordination of tasks and cooperation.[…] they jointly affirm their readiness to support the EU Commission, but also national governments to the best of their ability as a strategic partner in the realisation of the EU Strategy for the Danube Regions and to undertake appropriate tasks.”
The day ended with a vin d’honeur at the invitation of president Ivo Gonner at the Schwarzwald Stube.
