The public debates of European Union Strategy for the Danube Region represent an initiative of the Minister of Regional Development of Bulgaria, Ms. Lilyana Pavlova, and Mrs. Maria Nedelcheva – MEP GERB/EPP, and aims at organizing meetings on a monthly basis in order to gather all the stakeholders concerned by the Strategy, every time in a different city that lies along the Danube river in Bulgaria. The debates seek to deepen the cooperation between institutions and citizens in the Danube Region Indeed, by meeting with citizens, identifying all the relevant projects with them and their ways of implementation of the Strategy, in respect of the “bottom-up” dimension.
The first edition that opened the series of public debates with Danube stakeholders on the topic “The Danube Strategy – an opportunity to build the regions in Europe” took place in Silistra, on May 16, 2012 and gathered representatives of the ministries concerned, the education and business sectors and NGOs.
