Visit of Council of Danube Cities and Regions to the City of Vienna

VIENNA, February, 2011

Dr. Michael Häupl
Mayor of Vienna
Looking at the historical record and contemplating future global challenges, we have to conclude that to develop ever closer ties is not only desirable from a political point of view, it also makes good economic sense and will work to the advantage of all partners involved. In this context, I hope that an economic-historical overview may also provide some pointers for the successful design and implementation of a joint Danube Strategy. A long–term view of economic relations within the region shows that these relations have been characterised by a specific complementarity.” stated Dr. Michael Häupl – Mayor of Vienna while receiving Lord Mayor of Ulm Ivo Gönner and the General Coordinator of the Council of Danube Cities and Regions Peter Langer.
